Greenville, South Carolina — A number of high schools in Green, Polk, and Sumter counties will close next school year after failing to meet new school district guidelines, according to the Polk County Schools Department.
The new school year begins July 1, 2020.

Schools in Polk County, Sumter County, and the Polk City School District will close.
Some of the schools are still accepting students from the old school year.
Powell Middle School in Polk City, which was built in 1954, will be closed.
Other schools will be shuttered, but students will be able to attend classes at nearby nearby schools.
A high school at the South Central High School in Greenport will be converted into a daycare, according the Polk Education Department.
